Striker Cole Stockton has won September’s Player of the Month award for his outstanding performances in Sky Bet League One.
The 27-year-old has beat off competition from Lincoln City’s Anthony Scully, MK Dons’ Scott Twine and Sunderland AFC’s Carl Winchester.
Stockton scored five goals in September, including a 40-yard blockbuster against AFC Wimbledon which saw him take the club’s Goal of the Month award for the second month in a row.
This is also the second time the striker has been awarded the Player of the Month for League One after scooping it back in August, and Stockton says it is nice to be recognised once again.
“I am absolutely delighted to be awarded this again, like I said on my last interview I have to go out and try to do it again but it is lovely to be recognised,” he said.
“I am full of confidence and once you get the first couple of goals off your shoulders it is just about keeping that belief in yourself, and I know I am going to get those chances.
“Once you have the eye for goal and have that confidence within yourself, it is just about sticking with it and believing in yourself that you are going to score.”
After scoring 15 goals in all competitions last season, Stockton is well on his way to beating that tally after netting 11 times in 13 games already this campaign, and says he is relishing the step up to League One.
“The step up to League One was always going to be a test but I feel comfortable, I don’t feel out of place at all,” he added.
“I have said it in previous interviews I come through at this level, I know it was a long time ago but like I say, no centre-half will like the battles that I will give them.
“The way we have played this season has been a lot more disciplined than we did last season, but it has brought my game on even further.”
