Targets haven't changed for Robinson

18 October 2021

Manager Stephen Robinson says the team’s objectives haven’t changed despite recent results.

After defeat on Friday night against Burton Albion, the Shrimps boss has suggested that he will look to change a few things within his squad ahead of Tuesday night’s game against Cheltenham Town.

“I talk about blocks all the time and this one hasn’t gone as well as we would have wanted so far, but we needed to win two games at the start of it and we still need two games, nothing has changed,” said Robinson.

“It is up to me to find a slight tweak in what we do without coming away from what has been very good, the way we play and our principals but possibly change certain personnel and shape to give us a bit more of a defensive nous in there.

“People make mistakes at this level and don’t get punished, we have made mistakes and have been punished but we don’t make excuses about it, we hold our hands up and ultimately I have to take full responsibility for it.”

The Shrimps lead the way for goals in Sky Bet League One this season, and Robinson admits that for his team to improve, they have to be tighter at the back.

“If we get a clean sheet we probably will win, on the basis that we score goals, we want to keep the excitement but we want to shut up shop a bit more,” added Robinson.

“We will make some changes, I have a good squad and some lads that need opportunities but it up to me to find the right formula, I won’t come away from our philosophy because we are trying to change that across the whole football club.

“But a clean sheet would be very welcome and that is everybody’s job, not just the lads at the back, the work-rate starts at the front and we have to be a little.”
