Gaffer praises player's grit and determination

25 September 2021

Shrimps boss Stephen Robinson praised his team's battling display which saw the 10-men rescue a point against Accrington Stanley.

The home side had to play more than 50 minutes of Sky Bet League One action a man down after Shane McLoughlin was giving his marching orders, and Robinson says the quality was there for all to see.

“I would like to see the red card back again, I spoke to the referee and he believes it was a red card so if it was, it was.

“But again, we have to concentrate on what went on after that it was fantastic, fans can see when you are giving absolute everything, and playing with quality.

“We defended really well, there are two ways to play, that and really offensive but we showed a real steel and determination to hang into the game and that quality was there when we needed it with Cole’s [Stockton] finish.

Striker Cole Stockton was on the scoresheet again, netting another brace at the Mazuma Stadium and Robinson has asked for more from his forward, despite him leading the way in the goalscoring charts across Europe.

“I think he can be better, he is brilliant and we will keep driving him, don’t ever be happy with what you’ve done - he gets chances and he scores.

“He can do even more, he can score even more and he can get in behind even more, so I won’t leave him alone until I get the finished article.

“The good thing is, he is a boy that wants to learn, wants to works and add to his game - like all of them are, you can see that with their performances this season, they have shown great commitment to this football club."
