Gibson pleased performance and victory over Imps

29 September 2021

Defender Liam Gibson says he is happy with how the Shrimps performed against the Imps and were ultimately deserving of their 2-0 win.

Two second half goals courtesy of Cole Stockton, his 11th of the season in all competitions, and Scott Wootton, his first of the campaign, proved the difference between the two sides.

The 24-year-old says that, after a professional team performance, the Shrimps were good value for the victory.

“We knew before the game what they were all about,” he said.

“We knew they were a good footballing side, they actually came out the blocks very well in the first five or 10 minutes, so it was just about us riding the storm, and then getting the ball down ourselves and trying to create chances.

“I think we’re finally starting to see everything coming together, I think there was certain points in the first few games where you could tell we were a new team, and how many new signings did we make, so it’s just about gelling, and you can see that on the pitch.”

Tuesday night’s win saw the Shrimps record their third clean sheet of the season, and the former Newcastle United man admits it’s something the team have been striving for.

Gibson added: “[It’s] very good, we were talking about it before the Crewe game, and I think it was set pieces that was letting us down.

“It was just about trying to rectify the mistakes we were making from dead ball situations, but I think we’ve shown in the past two games that we’ve been pretty sound.

“League One is a totally different ball game, I think teams will move the ball around a lot quicker than it was in League Two, but it’s just about adapting to things like everything in life when it’s new to you.”
