Robinson happy to give players minutes

15 September 2021

Despite ending up on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline against Everton U21’s, boss Stephen Robinson was happy to give some players game time this early on in the season.

Sean McAllister’s second half goal sunk the Shrimps at the Mazuma Stadium, and Robinson was quick to laud the Toffees young guns in his post-match press conference.

“They have some really good players, so you have to give credit to David [Unsworth] and the boys - no games of football are easy,” he said.

“We used it as game time, we put out an experienced team that were lacking game time and that’s all it was.

“You have to give them a lot of credit, they have a good team and probably deserved to win because they hit the target.”

Despite having a large majority of the ball on the evening, the hosts could not make it count, and Robinson has called on his side to be more clinical in attacking areas.

“We dominated the game and we should be dominating this kind of game if I am honest with you,” he added.

“Our decisions and people getting into areas to score goals, we didn’t have enough bodies in there that wanted to attack the ball.

“We need to be a heck of a lot better, we need to move the ball quicker, we need to think and play the ball forward more often.”
