Robinson says Shrimps are ready for Crewe test

20 September 2021

Manager Stephen Robinson says he knows what to expect from Crewe Alexandra ahead of our Sky Bet League One clash with the Cheshire side.

The Railwaymen picked up their first win of the season last Saturday, a 2-0 win at home over Burton Albion, after a tough start which saw them draw two and lose four of their opening seven games.

Despite this, Robinson is impressed from what he’s seen from David Artell’s men and is fully aware of the threats that Alexandra will pose.

“I’ve seen a couple of games they’ve played,” he said.

“I watched them against Burton on Saturday, they’re a good football side as Crewe always are, they’re a side that knocks the ball about and they’re going to be a threat, like Doncaster.

“The league table means nothing, everyone’s a threat in this league, every time somebody plays Morecambe, they feel they’ll get three points, or they should be taking points off Morecambe, we’re well aware of that.

“We’re going to be competitive, we have been in every single game, and this is going to be no different.”

Artell represented the Shrimps as a player and made 120 appearances, scoring 15 goals, and Robinson believes the Crewe boss is doing a fine job.

Robinson added: “To be a long serving manager in football, you must be doing something right, and he is.

“He’s producing players that play a really attractive style of football, a lot of football in League One is very direct, a lot of physicality involved, and we’ve suffered from that at times.

“We’re not going to change our ways, we might need to add some more physical aspects to our game and more organisation but credit to David for how he plays.

“They’re an attractive team on the eye so hopefully it’ll be a good football match.”
