Shrimps boss impressed with professional performance against the Imps

29 September 2021

Boss Stephen Robinson was impressed with the way his side went about their business in Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over Lincoln City at the Mazuma Stadium.

Goals from Cole Stockton and Scott Wootton gave the Shrimps all three points and, in turn, lifted them to 11th in the Sky Bet League One standings, and Robinson says his team were more than worthy of the win.

“I am delighted with that performance, I thought there was real steel and grit to it and there were a lot of good, individual performances and as a team as a whole,” he said.

“I think we deserved it, make no mistakes about it, they are a good side - they have a good identity and style of play under a very good manager.

“Ultimately we deserved the win, they were in the Play-Offs last season - so with big moments going our way tonight such as Kyle’s [Letheren] save, everybody played their part.”

Stockton has now scored nine goals in his last 10 league appearances and is one of the leading scorers in Europe, something Robinson was quick to point out.

“We were screaming at him to pass and after that it was tactical genius for him to shoot, he is on fire at the minute,” he added.

“He had a very good game outside of his goal, he held the ball up well, put people through and he is a real handful to play against.

“Someone told me he is the leading goalscorer in Europe, I don’t think Morecambe have ever had that before, so long may that continue.”
