Adams impressed with side's dominant display

18 April 2022

Manager Derek Adams has praised his side’s dominant performance and says they were more than good enough for all three points on the day.

The Shrimps had to settle for a point from Monday’s game against Portsmouth at the Mazuma Stadium, and Adams singled out the impressive display of Pompey goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu as one of the reasons why his side could only manage a draw.

“We definitely deserved to win the game, you look at their goalkeeper and he has made some really outstanding saves, we had 19 attempts on goal to Portsmouth’s nine,” he said.

“So that tells you how dominant we were in the game, we had so many opportunities to win the game by a larger margin and we deserved more than a point, we should be stood here with all three.

“Portsmouth are a very good side, I have always known that over the years but they didn’t cause us much trouble today and that is a testament to our side, we were outstanding all over the pitch.”

With two Sky Bet League One games of the 2021/22 campaign remaining, Adams says his team have put themselves in a great position to avoid relegation this season.

“We have put ourselves into a much better position now to the one we were in when I joined the Club, I think that is important.

“We have had a lot of tough fixtures to go with, and we still have two huge games to come but to put ourselves in a position we are in now, with the way that we played was outstanding.

“The next two games are exciting games for us, two very tough games as both teams are still playing for something, we have put ourselves in a strong position and that is all you can ask.
