The 18-year-old picks up his first Goal of the Month award for his strike against Blackpool U18s.
The young Shrimps were drawing 1-1 with Blackpool when Nicholson caught a long-range cross and curled the ball into the far corner.
“When Blackpool equalised, I knew in myself that I needed to do something because I hadn’t really got into the game at that point,” he said.
“As soon as the ball came over, I knew that my touch would be good and that it would set me up for a shot, so then it was just all about the timing and the finish really.
“It was a good feeling as the ball came rolling to me, I controlled it and I set myself up and I thought yeah, I’m going to score here.”
Nicholson, who was part of the matchday squad for the FA Cup First Round win over Newport County at the Mazuma Stadium last year, says it’s a great opportunity to be included with the first-team, as that is the level he is working towards.
“It’s great to have even been nominated because it’s a good opportunity for me to put myself out there,” he added.
“Obviously, you’re up against some of the first-team players, and that’s the level that you want to reach, so it feels good to be involved in the award.
“Getting this award is a great achievement and hopefully I can get more. It feels good, obviously, and thank you to everyone who voted.”
