Adams impressed with how Shrimps have conducted themselves

19 August 2022

Manager Derek Adams says he is pleased with how his Shrimps’ squad have acquitted themselves so far this season.

Since the 2021/22 campaign ended, the squad has seen nine incomings, including Jacob Bedeau on a permanent deal following his loan spell last season, and nine outgoings.

Irrespective of the turnover, the gaffer is pleased with what his players are producing on and off the pitch.

“I think we’ve acquitted ourselves well,” he explains.

“We’re obviously a new team, new faces have come in, and I think the way we’ve played, the way we’ve dealt with the opposition, the chances we’ve created, it’s been very good.

“We’ve had a difficult four games from the point of view we’ve played a lot of good opposition.

“I think we are moving ahead as a team, we’ve played away to Peterborough, away to Bolton and we’ve been able to be undefeated at home against two teams who’ll be probably around mid-table in Shrewsbury and Fleetwood.

“We’ve been able to take in players who have come into the team, they’re good on the ball, good defensively as well and I can think they’ll progress over the season, it’s our job again this year to have League One football the season after.”

Adams’ and his team travel to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday to face Karl Robinson’s Oxford United, with memories of April’s 2-1 thriller victory over the U’s still raw in the memory.

Despite that, the gaffer knows Saturday’s hosts will be doing their all to put an end to their recent run of defeats.

He added: “They’ve lost their last two games, we understand that, they’re at home and they’ll be looking to try and get a positive result.

“They’re a very good side, they have a beautiful ground at home and they’re trying to get themselves out of League One into the Championship, not last season but the season before, they were in the Play-Offs.

“We’ll go there and try and get the better of them, we did it here at the end of last season, it was a fantastic game and a much needed three points at the time.”
