Adams: "We caused Peterborough problems."

6 August 2022

Manager Derek Adams says his side caused Peterborough United problems throughout the game despite leaving the Weston Homes Stadium empty handed.

Goals from Joe Ward, Ben Thompson and Hector Kyprianou saw the Posh pick up all three points on the day, and Adams says there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

“I thought we caused Peterborough some trouble, we got into their area and had a good number of opportunities that we just didn’t take, unfortunately for us,” he said.

“They scored a goal against the run of play at that moment of time, a shot from outside of the area that sound its way into the back of the net, and that was unexpected.

“We all know how good of a side Peterborough are but players such as [Ash] Hunter, [Jensen] Weir and [Jake] Taylor were causing them problems, which is promising going forward.”

Jake Taylor and Jensen Weir were handed their first starts in a Shrimps shirt by Adams, with the gaffer praising the way the pair approached the game.

He added: “I thought both players played very well, it is not easy coming into the side, away from home against a side like Peterborough but I think they settled well into the game.

“They both played their positions exceptionally well, we are two games into the season and we have picked up one point, we’ve played against two very good teams and there is a long way to go.

“We have to take the chances when they come along, we haven't today, but that is just the nature of football.”
