First goal of the season just around the corner says Hunter

12 August 2022

Winger Ash Hunter says it is only a matter of time for the Shrimps to net their first goal of the new season.

Derek Adams’ side have failed to find the back of the net in their three games this campaign but have managed to keep two clean sheets in that space of time, and Hunter is confident things will click into place sooner rather than later.

“It gives us confidence and it gives us a real base to work from, as a forward looking on it is always good to know that if the opposition has the ball it isn’t going to end up in the back of our net,” he said.

“We are just trying to get that goal that we desperately need at the moment, we had a few decent openings against Peterborough, but we couldn’t find that finishing touch.

“But we know we will get there, all of us are working hard in training, we’re getting to know each other and it is a matter of time before things start to click for us.”

Fleetwood Town are the visitors to the Mazuma Stadium on Saturday in Sky Bet League One, and the former Cod Army player admits it will be nice to see some familiar faces but his focus is on three points.

“I am really looking forward to it, I spent five years there at the start of my career, it will be nice to see some familiar faces,” he added.

“To get that chance at Fleetwood, was good. It is a really good club, they have a lot of fantastic facilities there, but ultimately it is about us getting three points.

“It will be our first three points of the season, it is a Lancashire derby, I’ve played in a few in my career so I know what it means to the fans, hopefully they will turn out in their numbers once again.
