Shrimps take part in Golf Day in aid of Defying Dementia

25 August 2022

Morecambe FC’s first-team players and staff took part in a Golf Day on Wednesday 24 August 2022.

Fresh off the back of securing passage to Round Three of the 2022/23 Carabao Cup, the players and staff headed to Morecambe Golf Club to partake in a team bonding session.

Midfielder Jensen Weir was the overall winner on the day, with Club Captain Connor Ripley picking up the award for the longest drive and defender Jacob Bedeau winning the closest to the pin accolade.

“Normally we would be in training or having a lighter session after a matchday, so to be able to do something different and have a bit of a team bonding day is really nice and important for us,” said Ripley.

“For me this is what we needed, we have come off the back of a great win against Rotherham United, and now we’re together playing golf, the camaraderie in the dressing room is top class.

“As well as it being a team bonding session it is a charity event, we are all chipping in and putting money into a fantastic charity of the Club’s choice, so it is a brilliant day all round."

First-team Lead Sports Scientist Oliver Howse added: “We thought that we would try something different for recovery after the win against Rotherham United on Tuesday night.

“The staff at Morecambe Golf Club have been fantastic with us and have been a massive help with us getting this event on, we would like to thank them for having us and the first-team staff and players will be making a donation to the Club Captain’s charity of choice which is Defying Dementia.”

We would also like to extend our appreciation to Helen Howse and all the staff at Morecambe Golf Club for their hospitality and for hosting us for the day.
