"We battered Fleetwood" says Adams

13 August 2022

Derek Adams admits that his side should have been out of sight by half-time with the amount of clear cut chances the Shrimps had in the opening 45 minutes.

Morecambe went in a goal-up thanks to Arthur Gnahoua’s stunning 32nd minute strike, and Adams says his men battered the Cod Army.

“It started end-to-end and I think we probably had the better of the first-half, we should have been three, four, maybe even five-nil up at half-time with the chances we had,” he said.

“We battered them, their goalkeeper has made some great saves, I don’t know how he has made some of them, we hit the post as well, we were quite dominant late on in the second-half as too.

“Arthur [Gnahoua] has scored a great goal cutting in from the left-hand side, as he does, I said to him before the game, go and do what you did against Charlton, and he did that really well.”

In scoring his first goal, Gnahoua netted the Shrimps’ first league goal of the 2022/23 season, and Adams has heaped praise upon the French winger.

“We created a lot of chances in both halves, we probably should have taken them, we would have liked to have won the game with the chances that we had throughout the game,” he added.

“Arthur [Gnahoua] is a talented player, he is strong, he is quick and he has been the one who hasn’t had as much game time because of the different formations we have played.

“He played really well in the first game of the season and he has ended up with a goal here.”
