Adams: The Players Deserved Victory

29 December 2022

Derek Adams has hailed his side’s performance in the Lancashire derby, saying they deserved victory over Accrington Stanley on Thursday night.

A superb Liam Shaw strike opened the scoring on 34 minutes after some tidy build-up play from Cole Stockton.

Top scorer Jensen Weir added a second, his seventh of the campaign, two minutes before the break to send the Mazuma Stadium faithful into hysteria.

Speaking after the game, Adams was full of praise for his players after a magnificent performance which extends their unbeaten home run to five games.

“I’m just delighted for the players because they deserved the victory tonight,” he said.

“They’ve been unfortunate at times this season not to have won more games.

“A magnificent display, superb goals, I just thought over the night it was a fabulous performance from the players.

“Five games at home now undefeated, it was just a terrific display of how to play football; to pass it, to move, to create openings, the goals were absolutely out of this world.

“Overall, a really top performance tonight.”

Morecambe return to home action on New Year’s Day with Burton Albion the visitors.

Following such a strong showing against Stanley, the gaffer spoke about the importance of maintaining his side’s performance levels.

“It really is important,” Adams added.

“The five games we’ve had here undefeated is great for the supporters because they were here in their numbers tonight and it’s fantastic to see us playing in League One, which we are, and competing.

“It’s a tough league but just the way we defended tonight was solid, resolute, and also the way we passed the ball, the substitutions who came on helped us as well.

“Just a top performance from a top group of players.”
