Adams: We’re Looking Forward To Festive Fixtures

23 December 2022

Shrimps boss Derek Adams says his side are looking forward to the festive fixtures.

Morecambe travel to Port Vale on Boxing Day before hosting Lancashire rivals Accrington Stanley on the 29th, Burton Albion then make the trip to the Mazuma Stadium on New Year’s Day.

With three games in a week, the gaffer sees it as an opportunity to add to our League One points tally.

“I’d say every game is key, from the start of the season to the end of the season,” he said.

“From our point of view, we’re looking forward to this period, three games in a short space of time, that gives us the opportunity to get points on board.

“Every game gives you the opportunity to get points, we’ve shown already in the home games we’ve played, we’ve been able to compete against the ones at the top end of the table.

“We’ve got some of the ones at the bottom end of the table around the Christmas period, and the middle of the table as well.”

Having reached the midway stage of the 2022/23 campaign, Ash Hunter and Courtney Duffus remain side-lined with long term injuries, and Adams provided an update on their return to fitness.

He continued: “Ash and Courtney Duffus are back training with the fitness team at this moment in time.

“They haven’t integrated fully with the first-team, they’ve been in and out of certain work but they’ve still got a long way to go before returning to full fitness.

“I don’t think it’ll be in January, I presume it’ll be February before we see anybody.

“[Hunter] was great when we signed him because he jinks about, he has shots at goal and he can score goals out of nothing.”
