Robinson expecting ‘twists and turns’ in last 15 games

11 February 2022

Shrimps boss Stephen Robinson says he is expecting many twists and turns between now and the end of the Sky Bet League One season.

With just under three months of the 2021/22 campaign to play, Robinson firmly believes that anything can happen, such is the unpredictable nature of the division.

“15 games to go, there’s going to be a lot of twists and turns in the season,” he said.

“We’ll beat teams we’re not expected to or lose to teams we’re probably expected to compete with and beat that are down at the bottom of the table.

“There’s nothing set in stone yet, there’s a long way to go as I say, 15 games, a lot of points to play for.

“Gillingham have had a little bounce in the last two games, they’re probably looking and thinking ‘we’ll try and catch Morecambe first and foremost’, we can almost keep them a good distance away from us and, again, bring people back to the race.”

As the culmination of the season draws nearer, the gaffer says he won’t be tempted to change Morecambe’s style of play due to the quality his players possess.

He added: “We sign players to play football, to express themselves, play good, entertaining football.

“Nobody can ever say we don’t try and entertain, don’t try and score goals, don’t try and give everything, press all over the pitch.

“We’ve come unstuck sometimes, but no, we’re not going to change.

“Do we have to be more streetwise? Of course we do, do we have to be more clinical in both boxes? Of course we do, that goes without saying, but we can’t change our style.

“We’ll play our way, the last six games I believe we’re going in the right direction, I believe we’re one of the teams down the bottom that others are hopefully starting to look over their shoulder now and play with a little bit of fear.

“We’ve played with that most of the season, so we’re used to it, I don’t think the pressure will get to us.”
