Shrimps SLO blog - introduction

17 February 2022

Hello, my name is Anya Wood. I joined the Club as Ticket Office Manager and Supporter Liaison Officer back in September.

Now we have the hectic Christmas schedule out the way, it is time I introduced myself and gave supporters a little insight into who I am, what I intend to do with my time here at the Club and how I wish to help improve the experience for all at the Mazuma Stadium.

I graduated from the University of Football Business (UCFB) in May 2019 with a degree in Football Business and Marketing. During my third year of University, I was lucky enough to be offered a paid role at a football club across The Bay.

Throughout my time at Barrow AFC, I was able to take on and get a taste for a few roles, settling as the Retail and Ticket Office Manager, a job I held for more than 12 months.

As many of you will now know, I have been working hard behind the scenes to help make your purchasing process of match day tickets, smoother and much simpler. If I haven’t, or you still have suggestions to make it even easier, please let me know. My virtual door is always open.

Alongside the Ticket Office Manager role, I was asked to be the Supporter Liaison Officer (SLO), a position I have never done before. The idea of an SLO is to communicate between supporters and the Club, keeping fans as up to date as possible on relevant decisions, but also working the other way and communicating questions, views, and concerns of supporters to the Club and help build bridges and fill in the gaps.

Recently, we launched our Fan’s Survey with the aim for the Club to get a feel for what we were doing well and where we could improve, short term and longer term. We have had some fantastic responses and we really feel that we have started to make changes and better our offering to supporters across the board.

From these results, I will be creating a mass ‘Frequently Requested Suggestions’ document, so I can update supporters on why some of the suggestions aren’t possible, but also show that we are taking into consideration all of your ideas, and which ones we can, and, will be looking to implement.

We have also released the launch of our Fan’s Forum Workshop which will be held this month. To make this a quality experience for all, we have been taking applications. We aim to have a variety of supporters on board to discuss results of the survey and talk about what we will be doing together to make these changes possible.

I intend to hold another one later in the year, after the season has finished or before the start of the 2022/23 season, to see how beneficial the changes we make are.

So, to all, if you have any questions, suggestions, or ideas, please don’t hesitate to drop me an email on SLO@morecambefc.com. Follow me on Twitter @Shrimps_SLO for the latest matchday updates along with the hashtag #AskAnya, both home and away. Or, if you just fancy a chat, pop along and see me one a matchday, I am usually hiding in plain sight at the front of the building.

Oh, and by the way…

This is me
