Stockton says teams mindset is positive heading to the LNER Stadium

7 February 2022

Cole Stockton says that the team will head into Tuesday night’s game against Lincoln City with a positive mindset.

After drawing 1-1 with Bolton Wanderers at the weekend, the Shrimps sit just one point from safety, something that Stockton believes will change in the coming weeks.

“On a Tuesday night, Lincoln is a difficult place to go, these are the games that matter now especially with where we are in the table, we have to keep applying ourselves and go about things in the right way," he said.

“We are building a lot of confidence in the dressing room, the performances dictate that and I think we can take a lot of positives from that, we’re a good bunch of lads and I hope the fans recognise that.

“We can’t dwell too much on Saturday, we have to learn from it, take the positives from it and go again.

Stockton netted his 21st goal of the season, his 18th in Sky Bet League One on Saturday, and the striker says he heads into every game thinking he is going to score.

He added: “I believe in myself more than ever, I know I am going to get chances, take Saturday for example and missing the penalty, it is what it is, it is not nice to miss but two minutes later I score to put us 1-0 up.

“That’s how quickly it can change, I know I am going to get the chances if I get in the right positions and I know that I am going to put them away.

“You can’t feel sorry for yourself, no one is going to make them runs for me, I know the quality that Phillo [Adam Phillips] has, and it was just about being in the right place at the right time."
