Bedeau hopes to build on AFC Wimbledon performance

15 January 2022

Burnley-loanee Jacob Bedeau says the Shrimps can build on this afternoon’s draw against AFC Wimbledon ahead of our upcoming home games.

The 22-year-old played the full match in what was his League debut for the club, and managed to keep the hosts at bay for the whole 90 minutes.

Several chances for either side came to nothing, and Bedeau says the team can build on a well-fought point ahead of next week’s Sky Bet League One home games against Wigan Athletic and Wycombe Wanderers’ respectively.

“Second half, they really came out and pressed us with high intensity,” he said.

“We really had to dig in and keep that clean sheet, which we managed to do, unfortunately we couldn’t go and nick a goal down the other end, but I think we take that point and then go again Tuesday.

“The team is playing well at the moment, it’s probably that confidence we got from the Doncaster game, then that performance against Spurs where we can come to a place like this second half under a lot of pressure and not break down.

“I don’t think they had many clear cut [chances], Trevor [Carson] had one from the set-piece and then they hit the bar as well which was a bit flukey, but it was a tight game like every game is in this League.

“The team defended well, we dug in and we take that point.”

After joining the club earlier in January on-loan until the end of the season from Burnley, the defender admits he’s settling in well to life with the Shrimps and is looking forward to a big week ahead.

Bedeau continued: “It’s a great bunch of lads, there’s a lot of banter flying about.

“They’re going well in the league, but we showed last week against a top team, we can more than match them.

“Every game in this league is going to be tight, it’s going to be competitive, we’re in the same league for a reason, so we’ll go there and try and win the game.”
