Robinson takes confidence from previous league win against Sheffield Wednesday

31 January 2022

Stephen Robinson says his side can take confidence from the fact that they have already beaten Sheffield Wednesday in league action this season.

The Shrimps were 1-0 winners back in August and Robinson admits there is no reason why they can’t come away from Hillsborough with all three points.

“They are a good team, they are a huge football club obviously, but on the pitch we have shown that there is not a lot of difference as we have beaten them before,” he said.

“There is no reason why we can’t do that again, I feel like we are on a good run of form, the confidence is building and growing, we have changed a lot of things over the last six month and we are starting to reap rewards.

“This is a bonus game for me, we have absolutely nothing to lose, nobody expects anything outside of our dressing room, we have learned a lot about ourselves recently and we will go there with a lot of confidence."

1,168 fans travelled to Accrington Stanley on Saturday, the most the Club has ever taken to the Wham Stadium in its history, and Robinson says we’ll need that level of support for the rest of the campaign.

“The fans stuck with the boys as they have done all season, they see the amount of effort that the players put in and on Saturday it was in difficult conditions,” he added.

“We could have nicked it in the last minute with Jonah’s [Ayunga] flick in the last minute, but it wasn’t to be, we will need that for the rest of the season.

“Obviously games against Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton are the easy ones because they are big games, but to get numbers like that at places like Accrington is fantastic.”
