Delaney relishing fresh start

29 July 2022

Shrimps defender Ryan Delaney is hoping for a fresh start ahead of the new season.

The Irishman is starting his second campaign with Morecambe and is pleased with the progress the side have made in pre-season.

“We’ve all come back in good shape and got through it with no injuries,” he said.

“We’re excited to get going and it all comes down to Saturday.

“In my head, I wanted to come back and stake my claim for Morecambe and I’m excited for a fresh start this season.”

The 25-year-old knows how dangerous the Shrimps can be going forward and hopes to contribute to results with positive defensive displays, emphasising the importance of keeping clean sheets this season.

He added: "We want to keep clean sheets in games and get points on the board.

“It makes it easier for the team if we're keeping clean sheets because we’ve got exciting attacking players that always step up when needed, as a defensive unit, we’ve got to do our part.

“We’re a good, motivated and hardworking squad and we’re ready to put in the hard work.

“The start of every season is exciting and it’s going to be good to get the fans back in the ground, when the whistle blows at three o’clock, it all starts again for another season.”
