Rawson pleased with Shrimps’ second-half reaction

9 July 2022

Farrend Rawson was happy with how Morecambe responded in the second-half against Macclesfield this afternoon.

Neil Kengni opened the scoring on four minutes before Alex Curran doubled Macclesfield’s advantage eight minutes later, before Cole Stockton and Ash Hunter respectively pulled Morecambe back into the game in the second half.

Rawson completed 86 minutes at the Leasing.com Stadium, and the 25-year-old was pleased with how Morecambe fought back to draw the match.

“They’ve got some exciting young players, you can see their coaching staff are trying to play a certain way and it caused us a couple of problems, but I think we stepped up,” he said.

“Some of the goals were sloppy, and then we reacted well and that’s the main thing about Pre-Season.

“It’s a little bit fake but you want to make it as real as possible, at the moment it’s all about getting the minutes in, putting in the hard work and getting that match fitness, that match sharpness up for the first game of the season.

“We won the last game and every game, we want to try and win every game possible, you’ve got to take what you can out of the game.

“It was a good test, I think we rose up to it, at 2-2 we could’ve won it at the end, especially myself, but no it was a good test, that’s what you want.”

The former Mansfield man joined the Shrimps last month and says he is already settling in well to his new surroundings.

He continued: “Ever since I came in, the lads have been class, they’ve made me feel welcome, they made me feel part of it straight away.

“I feel comfortable, happy, excited, motivated and I’m looking forward to the season.

“I just go out every day and give it my all and see what happens, I just like to defend, I’m one of those weird ones who actually likes to head it, kick it and block things!

“Every time I cross the line I’ll give it my all, this Pre-Season I’m working as hard as I can to put myself in a position where Morecambe fans, players and staff will see the best of me.”
