Smith smitten with the Shrimps

16 July 2022

Goalkeeper Adam Smith says there was never any doubt in his mind that he would be a Shrimps player this season.

The 29-year-old was offered a new one-year-deal by Derek Adams at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, and Smith says he was keen to get the contract signed as soon as possible.

He said: “I have enjoyed it a lot since I have been here, the manager saw that towards the back end of the season and I am guessing that is why he offered me a contract.

“I was offered a new deal and there was never any doubt that I wasn’t going to sign it, I was always wanting to stay, it was one of them where you just wanted to get everything sorted as soon as possible.

“I have moved to the area, but it was never in doubt, I absolutely loved it last season, so long may that continue.”

The Shrimps face Middlesbrough and Carlisle United respectively in their final two pre-season games, with Smith looking forward to seeing the Mazuma crowd once again.

“It was a good place to be at last season, especially the final few games of the season it was bouncing, it will be good to be back there again and see everyone,” he added.

“The support is class which is a credit to them, they turned out in their numbers home and away last season, so it will be good to get back on home soil on Tuesday night.

“Both games will have different challenges to them, like the four games we have played in so far, they are all picked for a reason, hopefully we can put in two positive displays which will set us up nicely for the start of the new season.”
