Shrimps away travel mileage confirmed for 2022/23!

14 June 2022

Preparations for our second successive Sky Bet League One campaign are underway, so we’ve taken a detailed look into our away days for the upcoming season.

The numbers are in, Morecambe will travel 4,101.8 miles (one way) to away games in the 2022/23 campaign.

Out of all 24 teams in the division, Morecambe will be the most northern team following Sunderland AFC’s promotion to the Sky Bet Championship, meaning all 23 away days will be southbound.

Of those teams relegated from the Championship, Derek Adams’ men will be facing Derby County and Barnsley for the first time in the football league, and have already played Peterborough United twice before in League Two.

The teams promoted from League Two are Forest Green, Exeter City, Bristol Rovers and Port Vale, all whom the Shrimps have met various times competitively in recent years.

Morecambe’s furthest trip of the 2022/23 season, 330 miles to be exact, will be to Plymouth Argyle’s Home Park, with trips to Portsmouth’s Fratton Park (292 miles) and Exeter City’s St James Park (287 miles) making up the top three longest away days.

Our shortest trips are made up of journeys to Fleetwood Town’s Highbury Stadium (34.4 miles), Bolton Wanderers’ University of Bolton Stadium (43.8 miles) and Accrington Stanley’s Wham Stadium (45.8 miles).

The 2022/23 Sky Bet League One fixture list will be released on Thursday 23 June at 9am.

Supporters are reminded that our busy pre-season schedule sees the Shrimps travel to Stalybridge Celtic, Macclesfield, Chester before hosting Middlesbrough and Carlisle United, full details can be found here.
