Students from Torrisholme Primary school took part in Utilita Kids Cup in Accrington

10 March 2022

Torrisholme have competed with local schools to earn their place in the Area Finals this week, where they represented Morecambe FC.

The Utilita Kids Cup is an annual competition ran by each club in the EFL. The tournament culminates in three finals across the Sky Bet EFL Play-Off Weekend in May.

Each club within the EFL holds their own competition made up of teams from the local catchment area. The tournament began with 28 teams, all competing to represent Morecambe FC, and after the knockout stages, Quarter Final, Semi Final and eventually the Final, Torrisholme Primary school came out on top.

On Wednesday, Torrisholme Primary school made their way down to Accrington to represent Morecambe, to compete for a place at Wembley. Other clubs such as Accrington Stanley, Burton Albion, Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday FC, and Sunderland AFC were also in attendance.

The morning results are as follows:

Morecambe v Doncaster 0-0

Morecambe v Sheffield Wednesday 0-2

Morecambe v Burton 1-0

After a morning of mixed results, the boys enjoyed their lunch break and a quick round of FIFA in the onsite games room. The short rest gave them the boost they were looking for as they went on to score eight goals in their final two games.

The afternoon results are as follows:

Morecambe v Sunderland 3-2

Morecambe v Accrington 5-0

The team managed to pick up 10 points on the day, which won them bronze, just missing out on a Semi-Final place. Regardless, they all had a great day, played some excellent football, and did Morecambe proud.
