Young Shrimps take centre stage

11 May 2022

The main pitch at the Mazuma Stadium was the setting for a memorable climax to the season for Morecambe’s young Academy players.

The U9s–U16s hosted Bolton Wanderers on Sunday for the final set of fixtures in their EFL Schoolboy Games Programme.

With parents and family guests watching on proudly, the young Shrimps had a taste of the full match day experience as they emerged from the tunnel and onto the Mazuma Stadium turf.

Seven games across the day were followed by the end of season awards ceremony in the Local Choice Suite, with staff joined by players and their families.

Head of Youth Stewart Drummond thanked everyone for their contribution to a successful season.

"We’ve seen fantastic developments across the club as we have established ourselves in League One and I like to think that the Academy has played its part and continues to evolve as the seasons go by," he said.

“We have some very talented players across the age groups and we continue to develop these players and hopefully find ways to push them through to our first team or sell on to other clubs, as ultimately that is how we are judged.

"I'd like to thank all staff, players and parents who have worked so hard to support the academy this season, I hope everyone enjoys the summer break and returns recharged for next season."
