Delaney: Focus On Our Consistency

17 November 2022

Ryan Delaney is hopeful the side can take confidence gained from their performance against Portsmouth last weekend into Saturday's match at Lincoln City.

The Shrimps head to Lincoln on the back of the 1-1 draw at home to Portsmouth, where Derek Adams' men created countless chances on goal. Delaney, who himself came close to finding the back of the net in the match, is looking forward to getting back out there on Saturday.

"I think the performance against Portsmouth showed what we are capable of as a team," he said.

"We showed as a squad how good we can be. Portsmouth are one of the biggest teams in this division, and we can take a lot of confidence from how performed. We created a lot of clear cut chances in the game and on any other day, we could probably have scored a fair few more goals. I think we were resolute at the back too, and it was a game we can be pleased with how we all performed.

"It's definitely something to build on, but we've got to get that level of consistency and take that into this weekend's game."

Saturday's fixture marks the starts of back-to-back matches at Lincoln City, as the Shrimps head to the LNER Stadium in both the league and cup, starting with this weekend's Sky Bet League One fixture.

"Lincoln are a good Club with a big fanbase, so it will be a great couple fixtures to be involved in," Delaney said.

"The atmosphere there is normally very good, so we will need to bring our A game straight form the start. We can't start off slowly - we're going to have to be at it right from the off, as they could punish us.

"If we can show similar attributes this weekend to that which we showed against Portsmouth, then I'm confident we can get the result we are all looking for."
