Mayor Made Up Following Late Leveller

30 October 2022

Adam Mayor was delighted to grab a point for Morecambe following Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Wycombe Wanderers.

The hosts found themselves ahead at the break following Chris Forino’s 20th minute opener.

After coming off the bench, Mayor came close to levelling for the Shrimps with a driven strike which deflected onto the post and behind for a corner.

It was directly from that set piece where the youngster did get on the scoresheet, his first EFL goal, and he was delighted to help the Club.

“I’m made up to get my first goal in the league,” he said.

“I came on and created a few other chances as well, I could’ve had another two.

“In training yesterday, I had a bit of extra time at the end whilst they [the team] were going over shape work.

“There were three balls left by the corner, I was trying to whip them in, so it’s worked.

“Hopefully if I keep coming on and doing well, making an impact, I can get my first start in the league soon.”

With seven league appearances to-date and three in the Papa Johns Trophy, Mayor has really made the most of his first team chances, which he says is bringing out the best in him.

He added: “I’m feeling good, when I’m on the pitch, I’m more confident.

“Against Harrogate I think it was, my dad was in the stands, he said he heard a few fans mentioning my name and saying good things about me, so it all has a positive impact on me when I hear things  ack.

“Games like those [against Wycombe], we need to be picking points up, it was quite a tough game I thought, so we just need to keep getting points.”

“[In the] second half, I thought the lads were much better than the first half.

“We were creating more chances and I think we deserved something out of it.”
