U18 Report: Morecambe 1 Bradford City 2

26 October 2022

Morecambe's youngsters bowed out of the FA Youth Cup at the first round stage with a last-gasp defeat at the Mazuma Stadium.

The game looked to be heading for extra time when Bradford midfielder Freddy Jeffreys let fly with a 25 yard left foot shot that curled into the top left hand corner of George Pedley's goal to break the Shrimps' hearts.

Morecambe started well and almost took an early lead with Saul Fox-Akande being played in down the left hand side by Matthew Williams only for his shot to be cleared off the line by Noah Wadsworth.

From there Bradford enjoyed a period of pressure with Isaac Robinson volleying inches wide and Nathan Tinsdale letting fly with two shots from distance that ended narrowly wide of the Morecambe goal.

Bradford ended the half on top and were denied the opening goal by a fine save from George Pedley on 41 minutes when he tipped a curling shot from Robinson onto the post with his right hand.

Half-time: Morecambe 1 Bradford City 2

The young Shrimps took the lead in the 49th minute when George Pedley took full advantage of a mistake by Bradford keeper Thomas Myles to score from close range.

Unfortunately the lead lasted justy seven minutes as Bradford levelled with a well worked goal. Robinson found some room down the right and produced a low cross that Jay Tinsdale slotted home at the far post.

Chances were at a premium until a frantic final few minutes where Morecambe's Leyton Holden headed over a right wing corner from close range before Jeffreys struck the killer blow in injury time.
