Connolly targeting second Shrimps win in a row

18 September 2022

Dylan Connolly is hoping the Shrimps can make it two wins from two as they welcome Hartlepool United to the Mazuma Stadium on Tuesday night.

Following a 3-3 draw against Everton U21s in their 2022/23 Papa John’s Trophy opener, the Shrimps claimed the bonus point following a penalty shootout victory,

Morecambe head in to Tuesday’s clash on the back of an away win at Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, and Connolly hopes the team can build on that victory.

“It was a great win away from home [on Saturday], we’re looking to kick on now and get another win at home on Tuesday night,” he explained.

“It was a good victory [against Everton U21s], we want to win as many games as we can, the cup is important to us, we can gain confidence from these games and hopefully get wins and kick on.

“We don’t know what team is going to play on Tuesday night, but if lads that haven’t been playing are going to get a game, I think everyone has to come in and work hard.

“It’s a big squad here, it’s a good squad and everyone’s got to put it in for the whole season.”

Connolly has been in and out of the starting-XI since the season began, and the 27-year-old says he’ll always be ready to take the chance when presented with one.

He continued: “To make things difficult for the defenders, try to get the team up the pitch and cause havoc, that’s my job.

“I work hard every day so I’m ready when called upon, it’s a team game, you’ve got to work hard every day and commit yourself every day in training, and that’s what I do, I always do that.

“I’ll keep going and work hard until the very last minute, in training and on the pitch.

“I work hard every day, so I’ll be ready regardless.”
