Derek's delight at professional performance

17 September 2022

Derek Adams says Saturday’s 2-1 win against Forest Green Rovers at The Bolt New Lawn Stadium was a ‘thoroughly professional performance’ from his side.

The Shrimps had to come from a goal down to take all three points, with defender Farrend Rawson bagging the winner in the 93rd minute against one of his former sides, and the 47-year-old Scotsman was impressed with the way his team dominated proceedings.

He said: “We obviously deserved it, it was a very good performances from us following on the performances we have had, we dominated the game for large spells as well.

“We had some many opportunities on goal and probably should have been 2-0 up in the early stages of the game through Donald Love and Kieran Phillips.

“It was a thoroughly professional performance from us, the way we kept the ball and the way we kept pushing Forest Green back, I am delighted for the players.”

Striker Kieran Philips netted his second goal in a Morecambe shirt which started the Shrimps revival and Adams has been impressed with the way the on-loan Huddersfield Town man has gone about his business since joining the Club.

He added: “He had added something different to the squad, himself and [Cole] Stockton up front did really well, he has done well getting in behind and could have had a couple today.

“It is a great day for Morecambe Football Club, especially for the fans who have made their way down here today, the players and the staff as well, it has been a great day.

“We want to be in Sky Bet League One next season, it is a tough league, we know that, we are where we are and we want to be in this situation next season.”
