Gibson out to prove MK Dons defensive display was a blip

2 September 2022

Liam Gibson says the Shrimps need to prove the defensive display against MK Dons was just a blip.

Morecambe will look to put their first league victory on the board when they travel to Bristol Rovers.

“We’re under no illusions. Every game in league one is a tough game especially Bristol Rovers because I think it can be quite hostile in their stadium,” he said.

“I think first and foremost we need to kill their momentum early in the game and then hopefully we can get an early goal ourself.

“I think you don’t just become a bad team defensively I think it [the MK Dons game] was just a blip. Like I say we’ve got to prove that on Saturday.”

Liam could come up against his younger brother Lewis who is on loan at Bristol Rovers from Everton.

“It’s going to be a bit of a strange one, especially for the parents!” he added.

“[He’s] obviously a good footballer, great lad but he’s had a lot of injury problems in the past so I think for him it was just about going out on loan and playing as many games as possible.

“Both being defenders I think a 0-0 would probably be the best result for my parents.”
