Rawson happy to help Shrimps to three points

17 September 2022

Farrend Rawson says he was pleased to help the Shrimps to victory with his 93rd minute winner against Forest Green Rovers.

The hosts took the lead through a fine Connor Wickham strike on 30 minutes, before an equally as impressive solo effort from Kieran Phillips levelled the score line just before half-time.

Both sides calved out chances in the second half, however it was Rawson’s 93rd minute header which secured the points for Morecambe, and the former Rovers man was delighted to help the team.

“It’s a 93rd minute winner, it doesn’t matter where you are,” he said.

“If you score one of them, the excitement and the relief as well, I’m happy to score and I’m happy to help the side get the three points.

“It’s been coming for a while now, hopefully we can build on this now, take a lot of positives from it and move forward.”

Derek Adams made a number of changes throughout the game, and Rawson was quick to compliment the entire squad, saying every player will be needed as the season progresses.

He continued: “Every player out on that pitch and the subs who came on, Dylan was out there, he worked like a mad man, running up and down causing all sorts of carnage, and that’s what we’re going to need.

“We’re going to need all the players throughout the whole season to keep pushing on, hopefully we’ll build on this performance and try to climb up the table.

“We’ve had a tough start, we’ve been away at some really good sides, and it’s been tough, but we stuck in there, we’ve got some points.

“Some people probably thought we wouldn’t, but at the end of the day, we came here full of encouragement, we had a right go and we got the win which is brilliant.”
