Shaw targeting Shrimps success against Owls

12 September 2022

Midfielder Liam Shaw admits lining up against his boyhood club will be strange, but his eyes are set on maximum points for the Shrimps.

The 21-year-old came through the academy at Hillsborough before going on to make 24 appearances in all competitions for the Owls before moving to Celtic, and Shaw says the club helped shape him into the player he is now.

“I started there as a youngster and stayed there for 10/11 years, they did a lot for me and it is my boyhood club,” he said.

“They helped shape me into the player that I am now, spending those years developing and then breaking through, so it is a club that means a lot to me in that respect.

“It will be weird coming up against the team I follow, but I am playing for Morecambe, I want three points for us and I am going to take it as I would any other game.”

Shaw made his debut for the Shrimps in our last Sky Bet League One fixture against Bristol Rovers, and the on-loan Celtic man says he is settling in well at the Mazuma Stadium.

“I loved being back playing again, I was happy to get 90 minutes as well - I enjoyed going out there and being part of it, we managed to get a point and I feel like we should have won it.

“We did enough to pick up the three points I feel, but we have to take it game-by-game but we put in a really positive performance.

“I am settling in quite nicely, all the lads, the staff and everyone around the Club has made me feel welcome, I am just hoping that I can keep playing and making a difference for the team."
