Austerfield: It’s A Great Move For Myself

2 February 2023

Midfielder Josh Austerfield says his loan move to Morecambe was a no brainer.

The 21-year-old arrived on deadline day from Huddersfield Town until the end of the season, having spent the first six months of the campaign at Sky Bet League Two side Harrogate Town.

Joining the Shrimps presents Austerfield with the opportunity to play League One football for the first time in his career, a prospect he is relishing.

“I’m buzzing to be here, I feel like it’s a great move for myself,” he said.

“I want to test myself at the highest level possible and League One was the next step for me, so as soon as I got the call, I thought it’s a no brainer, I’m buzzing to get going.

“I learnt a lot from that [his time at Harrogate Town], especially my first couple of months there, I didn’t play much, to get in the team, you’ve got to perform, and I felt like I did that.

“I took a lot of confidence from that, and I feel I can do the same here, get myself into the training group, train well and hopefully get an opportunity.”

Austerfield featured against Morecambe for Harrogate earlier in the season when the two sides met in the Papa Johns Trophy, and he admits he was pleased with what he saw from his new club.

He added: “They played really good football, it was a tough game.

“Personally, I thought I played really well, Harrogate came out winners, but it was great to play against Morecambe, they’ve got some really good players, I came off the pitch thinking they’re a good team.

“I’ve just met the lads and they’ve all been really welcoming, and that’s all you want as a young player coming in on loan.

“The better they are with me, the more confidence it gives me on the pitch and hopefully I can show that in the next few weeks.”
