28 January 2023

Shrimps boss Derek Adams was delighted with his side's performance in their 5-1 win over Bristol Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

The Shrimps were 1-0 up at the break thanks to Dan Crowley’s first goal for the club. Adams’ side scored four second half goals to wrap up an excellent 5-1 win at the Mazuma.

Adams said his side were fabulous for the whole 90 minutes.

“It was a great win for us today,” he said.

“Overall, it was a fabulous performance from us to beat a team who are 11th in the league 5-1 at home.

“The way we scored, the way we took them, it was a great day for the players and the staff."

Morecambe were impressive all of the pitch, with goals coming from defender Donald Love, midfielders Dan Crowley and Adam Mayor and strikers Cole Stockton and Michael Mellon.

The gaffer was quick recognise and praise the excellent contributions from his squad all over the pitch.

“Dan can take the ball anywhere and he scored a fabulous goal,” the gaffer added.

“He was involved in a good number of moves for us today, and goals.

“It was great to see the likes of Adam Mayor score, Mellor to get a goal and Donald Love got a goal.

“The way we passed the ball today, we opened up a very good team in Bristol Rovers.”

Saturday’s win was Morecambe’s fourth straight home win, and their unbeaten run at the Mazuma was extended to eight games without loss on home soil.

The gaffer has said he wants the Shrimps excellent home form to continue for the remainder of the season.

Adams continued: “To score five goals again at home is delighting for the players.

“The supporters are able to see a team score five goals in League One for the second time this season and get another home victory.

"We’re now unbeaten at home in eight games.”
