Gibson: We Need To Build On Current Form

9 January 2023

Liam Gibson says the Shrimps need to continue building on their current form.

Saturday’s 2-1 win over Cheltenham Town saw Morecambe’s winning streak extend to three games, following festive victories over Accrington Stanley and Burton Albion respectively.

Next up for Derek Adams’ men is a trip to Cambridge United, and Gibson admits the team must focus on continuing where they left off.

“We’ve put three wins together in a row, hopefully we can continue that,” he said.

“I think we needed a bit of self-belief, we can see that, even in the Port Vale game (on Boxing Day), I thought the performance was good, I think we were just lacking goals.

“Now that we’ve started believing in ourselves a bit more, you can see that on the pitch.

“We need to build on that again at Cambridge.”

The 25-year-old has featured in all but two of Morecambe’s Sky Bet League One fixtures so far this campaign.

More recently, Gibson has enjoyed playing further up the pitch in midfield, a challenge he has taken in his stride.

“I like it in there,” he continued.

“I like being able to get on the ball and start attacks, I’m not saying I’m the best on the ball, I like to rat around and give it to players who are better on the ball than me.

“I think we’ve built some momentum on the back of the two wins over the Christmas period and we’re looking like a really good team at the minute.

“I think, when you watch us, you can tell there’s been a bit of a mentality change and we’re starting to believe in ourselves a bit more.”
