Charlie Brown joins Morecambe FC

23 June 2023

Forward Charlie Brown has today joined Morecambe FC from Cheltenham Town FC.

23-year-old Charlie, who made 28 appearances for Cheltenham last season, becomes Derek Adams 3rd signing of the summer transfer window.

Progressing through the prestigious youth system at Chelsea FC, Charlie was first loaned to Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise from 2019-2021, where he would continue his development in a foreign environment. Upon his return to Stamford Bridge, Brown would then sign for MK Dons permanently, in his first season making 20 appearances for them, scoring 3 goals in the process.

In his second season at Stadium MK the striker made just 12 appearances before moving to Cheltenham Town. Charlie’s most successful campaign came last term, with the striker turning out 28 times for Cheltenham scoring on 5 occasions. Brown is also renowned for his ability to play anywhere along the forward line.

Charlie has signed a one-year deal at the Mazuma Stadium.

Upon signing Brown, Manager Derek Adams has said, “Charlie is a promising young forward. He has come through a very strong academy and has since gone on and really tested himself in League One which will serve us well.”

“For being only 23-years-old it is a testament to his character that he has over 75 appearances behind him. It shows his desire to play regular football and not be a bit part player.”

After putting pen to paper on his deal, Charlie added, “I’m very much looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead. Everybody knows that Morecambe are a club that have been an asset to the EFL since they came into the professional leagues, and I want to play my part in the next chapter.”

“When you join any club it is about ‘what feels right’ and this certainly felt right for me and I can’t wait to get going.”

*Subject to EFL clearance, contract from 1st July 2023.
