13 March 2023

Morecambe will be looking to make it three games unbeaten at home when they take on Charlton Athletic at the Mazuma Stadium on Tuesday 14 March.

The Shrimps were beaten 3-1 away from home by Shrewsbury on Saturday. Our last outing at the Mazuma saw Derek Adams’ side held to a goalless draw by Bolton Wanderers.

Charlton welcomed Accrington Stanley to The Valley on Saturday and came away with 1-1 draw.

The Opposition

Like many of the clubs in the division, Charlton have a rich history in the English game. The Addicks won the FA Cup in 1947 when they beat Burnley 1-0 in the final at Wembley. The London-based side also won the second tier once in 2000, League One in 2012 and, most recently, the League One Play-Offs in 2019.

Dean Holden is in charge at The Valley. Holden played as a right-back for the likes of Oldham Athletic, Peterborough United, Shrewsbury Town, Rochdale and Walsall . The 43-year-old began his managerial career at Oldham in 2014 before being dismissed two years later. After six years in various coaching roles, Holden became manager of the Addicks in August 2022.

One of Rak-Sakyi’s fellow youngsters, Miles Leaburn, has also made an impression at The Valley this season with six goals and three assists in the current campaign. The 19-year-old also began his career in Chelsea’s youth system and has been at Charlton since 2019, breaking into the first team this season.

Corey Blackett-Taylor also has six goals and three assists - his most recent goal was the difference in the Addicks' 1-0 win over Forest Green Rovers in February. The 25-year-old spent his early years at Aston Villa before securing a move to Tranmere Rovers in 2019. Blackett-Taylor made 44 appearances in Merseyside before moving to south-east London in 2021.

Dean Holden’s Thoughts

Holden told CharltonTV his side are only focussed on themselves ahead of Tuesday night’s clash.

“We respect the job Derek [Adams] has done while he’s been there,” he said.

“At home, they’ve got a really decent record, it’s a tight ground and there’ll be a good atmosphere in there tomorrow night, but getting our own performance right is the main thing for us.”

Jake Taylor and Max Melbourne remain side-lined with injuries while Jacob Bedeau is kept out with a knee problem.

New addition Oumar Niasse could make his home debut at the Mazuma if called upon.
