Shrimps In Focus - Anya Wood

16 March 2023

As we celebrate #HerGameToo this weekend at the Mazuma Stadium, we will be taking a look at some of the important women involved in the running of Morecambe Football Club.

Today we meet Ticket Office Manager and Supporter Liaison Officer, Anya, who plays an integral part in the operations of the ticketing, communications and planning for The Shrimps.

How long have you worked at Morecambe FC?

I joined Morecambe in September 2021 as Ticket Office Manager, SLO and Commercial Assistant.

Why do you enjoy working at the Mazuma Stadium?

Morecambe FC is one big happy family. Everybody helps everyone else, making it such a welcoming football club and environment for us all. The club have helped me see potential in myself and have helped me grow personally and professionally.

What is the part of your job that keeps you coming back?

The people. Whether that be those that I work with, the supporters or other stakeholders in the business. They all contribute to making Morecambe FC a lovely place to work.

Give us a quick insight into what your job entails?

My job consists of a number of different roles. I am responsible for ensuring tickets for fixtures, both home and away, are on sale in a timely manner. I am the bridge between supporters and the directors of Morecambe FC, providing a two-way communication, highlighting concerns and providing supporters with as much information around certain topics as I can. I do this through the @Shrimps_SLO Twitter account. I also delve into the depths of analysing ticket sales and attendances.

What did you do before joining Morecambe FC?

Before coming to Morecambe FC, I was the Ticket Office and Retail Manager at Barrow AFC.

Which colleague do you enjoy working with the most?

Everyone. It wouldn’t be fair to single one person out, when every single person helps create the fantastic atmosphere here at the club.

Quick fire questions:

Movie or box set?

Box Set (Series), though I will watch the same one on loop.

Takeaway or cook?

Takeaway. I leave the cooking to my partner.

Beach holiday or city break?

I do love the sun, but I burn far too easy, so a long city break is nice.

Sweet or savoury?

Savoury. I do have a sweet tooth, but I would take a packet of crisps over sweets and chocolate any day.

Night in or night out?

Night in. A night in front of the fire, with a Chinese, a glass of wine, a series on the TV, cuddling my cats (Barney and Bernie). Absolute dream.

Winter or summer?

Winter. I know, controversial, but I prefer being cold and needing to get warm, than being too hot and having no option to cool down.

Coffee or tea?

Coffee. Starbucks Caramel Latte to be precise, if you’re buying.

Planner or go with the flow?

Planner. I love lists. I can’t do the whole spontaneous thing.
