Four Shrimps get International Recognition

1 September 2023

Eli King, JJ McKiernan, Jacob Bedeau & Adam Mayor have been rewarded for their early season performances with recognition from their respective national squads.

Eli will join up with Wales Under 21’s as they travel to the Jonava City Stadium to face Lithuania Under 21’s in their UEFA Euro U21 Championship Qualifier on Tuesday 12th September (4.00pm kick off).

JJ is heading across the water to join up with Tommy Wright’s Northern Ireland Under 21 side. They face a double-header with a home tie against Luxembourg on Thursday 7th September (2.00pm kick off) in Northern Ireland before facing Ukraine on Tuesday 12th September (5.30pm kick off).

Jacob Bedeau gets his first call up for Grenada. Bedeau will be part of Grenadian squad that faces CONCACAF Nations League clashes with Suriname & Honduras on Saturday 9th & Wednesday 13th September respectively. The ‘Spice Boys’, as they are nicknamed, are managed by former Wolves Manager Terry Connor.

Adam Mayor has also been recognised for his development. Adam is currently on the standby list for England Under 20’s as the three lions maintain their watchful eye on our developing winger.

On their call ups, Manager Derek Adams said, “It’s fantastic for all four players to be recognised by their national sides. It is true testament to how all four have applied themselves and their attitudes to continually improving at the same time as they play a vital part in our squad.”

“Part of their development here is continuing to push themselves each day and playing at International level is certainly good recognition of their willingness to do that. I know that the 3 heading off will come back better for the experience and for Adam, it gives him massive confidence. It keeps these players hungry to maintain and grow the levels which they are performing at and its benefitting both Morecambe and their national sides right now.”
