Mazuma Mobile Stadium plays host to boxing royalty

12 April 2024

With under 40 days to go until the highly anticipated bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, the Morecambe-based heavyweight champion spoke to the world from the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.

Big names from the world of boxing took to the home of Morecambe Football Club to hear from the Gypsy King ahead of a Ring of Fire showdown in Saudi Arabia.

Promoter Frank Warren, trainer Sugar Hill and manager Spencer Brown fielded questions alongside Fury from the world's media, with other big names such as Steve Bunce, Joseph Parker as well as John and Tommy Fury also in attendance.

The press conference was broadcast to millions around the world from the Local Choice Suite, right in the heart of Morecambe FC.

Jodie Assitt, Head of Events, Bars & Catering, spoke of her delight following a historical day for the Club, saying "It's not often we host globally broadcasted events here at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, but when we do, we do it right!"

"On Wednesday, we had the pleasure of hosting the Fury v Uysk press conference, which we were delighted to get involved with due to Tyson's longstanding support for the club.

Thank you to everyone involved in making the event a success - it was an all round brilliant day which allowed us to raise awareness about one of the many things we excel at here at Morecambe FC.

"Good luck Tyson!"

Head of Commercial Martin Thomas discussed the benefits of hosting such an event can have on the Club.

He said: "It was a great opportunity to showcase the facilities at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium to the world. With coverage on DAZN, TNT Sports, Sky Sports and various other channels worldwide, it means more people than ever will hear about Morecambe FC.

"Over the last few seasons, the relationship we have developed with Tyson and his teams has increased our awareness reach beyond football fans and into a wider audience.

"This has shown over the last few years with major sponsorship assets increasing over 300% and are set to reach new record levels during the 24/25 season.

"Tyson is a great ambassador for the town and we look forward to working with him again in the near future."

Everyone at Morecambe Football Club wishes Tyson all the very best when he faces Usyk on 18 May!
