Highly rated midfielder Alfie McCalmont joined the Shrimps on a season-long loan from Leeds United in July 2021.

The Thirsk-born man came through the youth ranks at Elland Road, making his club debut in the Third Round of the FA Youth Cup in a 1-0 defeat against Burnley in November 2017. 

McCalmont's first taste of international football came for Northern Ireland U19s in the UEFA EURO U19 Championship Qualifiers against Poland, Serbia and Kazakhstan respectively. 

The midfielder broke into the first team at Leeds United for the first time in 2019/20 and was included in several match day squads in the Sky Bet Championship. Furthermore, his first professional appearances for Leeds came in the EFL Cup against Salford City and Stoke City. 

McCalmont's progress was rewarded with his first senior call up for Northern Ireland, making a 31 minute debut in a 1-0 win over Luxembourg.

For the duration of the 2020/21 season, the Elland Road man spent the campaign on loan at Sky Bet League Two side Oldham Athletic, where he made 39 appearances for the Latics in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists. 

Following an impressive start to life at the Mazuma Stadium, McCalmont received an international call-up by Ian Baraclough for Northern Ireland's friendly against Estonia and World Cup Qualifiers against Lithuania and Switzerland.
