Morecambe U17s 3, Ashton 2MORECAMBE Under 17s ended the season on a high note with victory in the North West Alliance League's Open Cup final.
Dickie Danson's side overcame the disappointment of defeat in their first of their two cup finals last week with a better performance in the game played at Atherton Collieries.
After an even start to the game Morecambe took the lead when Declan Watson nipped in at the near post to convert a left wing cross after a fine Morecambe move.
Ashton came out strongly in the second half and the young Shrimps had to sustain a prolonged period of pressure. But their resistance was broken on 60 minutes when the Ashton striker scored with a superb volley from the right hand side of the box.
To their credit Morecambe hit back and we soon back in front when Wade Muscart was brought down in the box and the same player stepped up to slot home the penalty.
Muscart was on target again to put the Shrimps 3-1 ahead after a Watson corner before Ashton hit back with four minutes to go with another excellent finish.
The Shrimps were forced to sustain a final onslaught but held on to pick up some well earned silverware.
