Football League Kids Cup

23 January 2014

Local final this Saturday

Each season the Football League organises two cup competitions for junior footballers from schools across the country (Kids Cup and Girls Cup), with the finals being played in the build-up to some of the biggest matches of the domestic season.

The Kids Cup comprises a six-a-side competition for U11 schoolchildren and culminates in three finals across the Football League Play-Off weekends in May. In the 2012/13 season, the League 2 winners were Slyne-with-Hest St Luke’s CE Primary School, who represented Morecambe in the final at Wembley.

Schools from across the district came to Globe Arena on 23 January to take part in the local heats of the competition.  The winners from those heats (Lancaster Road and Moorside Primary Schools) will be competing in the local final, which will be played on the main pitch at half-time during the home game against Portsmouth on 25th January.

The winning team will progress to the regional final, which will take place in March and who knows, maybe Wembley awaits..?
