Morecambe Football Club announce The Eric Morecambe Tribute Dinner - Thursday the 16th April 2015
Morecambe Football Club are delighted to announce that they will be hosting The Eric Morecambe Tribute Dinner on Thursday the 16th April 2015.
The dinner is part of the fundraising project to raise £50,000 for a Sunshine Garden of Fame on Morecambe’s promenade that will feature a life size Bronze Wall Art of Morecambe and Wise by Graham Ibbeson, the sculptor who was responsible for the icon Eric Morecambe statue.
It is planned to unveil the Bronze Wall Art on ‘Eric Morecambe Day’ in July 2015 and set in motion a legacy that will create tourism and attract business into Morecambe for many years to come.
We are delighted to announce that our entertainment for the evening will be Jonty Stephens & Ian Ashpitel, the stars of the hit West End Show ‘Eric & Little Ern’. They will recreate the memorable stand-up routines of Morecambe and Wise in what promises to be a night of pure comedy nostalgia.
Our very special guest will be Manchester United footballing legend Dennis Law who will be joined by a number of friends and admirers of Eric Morecambe from the world of show business and sport.
Morecambe FC Chairman Peter McGuigan commented; ‘What an honour it will be to host such a night here at the Football Club. In my 19 years at the Club I have always been fascinated with the stories of Eric Morecambe’s connection to Christie Park. Although we lost him to Luton Town in an ‘official’ capacity; we have been told that he always looked out for our results. To have stars of the ‘West End Stage’ performing here will be a huge thrill and I trust that the businesses of the region will recognise the huge contribution the comedy duo made to this area by coming out to support the night’.
Eric Morecambe’s son Gary said ‘In a word these plans are FANTASTIC. In two words: REALLY FANTASTIC’ the whole project is very exciting. I love the idea of the bronze wall art of Eric and Ernie and of the Eric Morecambe Day, which is a sublime, annual tribute. ‘As a family we all love the idea of an Eric Morecambe Day and we will make sure one or more of us is there to celebrate these Days with the people of Morecambe’

All profits from the evening will go towards the Sunshine Garden of Fame and the Morecambe and Wise Bronze Wall Art.
Single tickets cost £55 each with a table of 10 costing £500. Included in the price is an arrival drink, 3 course meal, entertainment and entry into the evening’s raffle.
