Morecambe nominated for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Team of the Round prize.
Morecambe have earned themselves a chance to collect some pre-Christmas silverware after being nominated for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Team of the Round prize.
Jim Bentley’s side have been shortlisted for the award after shocking Sky Bet League 1 outfit Rochdale with a 1-0 victory courtesy of a first half-strike from Paul Mullin in the Area Quarter-Finals.
Millwall and Yeovil Town have also been nominated for the Team of the Round award in what is the tenth season of Johnstone’s Paint’s sponsorship of the Football League Trophy.
The winning team is set to be selected by a panel of judges over the coming days and will receive a supply of Johnstone’s Paint to utilise on a club project, as well as a trophy.
Richard Mazurkiewicz, marketing manager for Johnstone’s Trade, said: “It was a fantastic result for Morecambe and keeps their dream of reaching Wembley very much alive.
“Yeovil, Millwall and Morecambe all produced results worthy of winning the Team of the Round award and the judges will have a very difficult decision deciding on one winner.”
Millwall’s nomination came on the back of an eight-goal thriller at Sky Bet League 2 leaders Plymouth Argyle. A Lee Gregory hat-trick paved the way for a 5-3 triumph for the Lions, with Mark Beevers and Aiden O’Brien also on target for the visitors.
Yeovil pulled off an upset as they went through on penalties against League 1 high-flyers Gillingham. The tie had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes with Harry Cornick grabbing the Yeovil goal.
Johnstone’s Paint has been bringing colour to the beautiful game since it began sponsoring the Football League Trophy in 2006.
