Reserve Team Match Report: Liverpool XI 4-0 Morecambe XI

THREE late goals saw the Shrimps slip to a 4-0 defeat in a friendly game at Liverpool's Academy this afternoon.

The Shrimps played some good football and created several chances against a strong Liverpool side who included Jose Enrique and John Flanagan in their ranks.

Liverpool took the lead after 30 minutes. A well placed Harry Wilson pass in the box found Daniel Trickett-Smith and he had no trouble firing home.

It was Matt Virtue who replaced Flanagan at half-time and he set up the Reds’ second goal. A good low cross from the right  found fellow substitute Sam Hart coming in from the other wing and he swept home.

Wilson struck from Allan’s pass late in the game to make it three and the scoring was completed when midfielder Adam Phillips strode forward to collect a Virtue pass and fired accurately across the keeper and into the net with virtually the last kick.

The only downside to the afternoon was an injury to Aaron McGowan on his comeback after suffering a knock at York.

Boss Jim Bentley said: “It was a really god run out for the lads and they played some good stuff against a good side.

“A few of the lads have been a bit short of minutes recently and it was good to get them some minutes under their belts.''

Liverpool: Ryan Fulton, Jon Flanagan (Matt Virtue), Jose Enrique, Tom Brewitt (Corey Whelan), Kristof Polgar (Alex O'Hanlon), Ryan McLaughlin (Sam Hart), Kevin Stewart, Pedro Chirivella (Adam Phillips), Allan Rodrigues de Souza, Harry Wilson, Daniel Trickett-Smith (Brooks Lennon)

Morecambe: Thompson, McGowan, Dugdale, Parrish, Wilson, Fleming, Kenyon, Devitt, Wildig, Molyneux, Mullin. Subs: Goodall, Doyle, Bailey, Miller, Edwards
