Reserve Team Match Report: Port Vale 3-1 Morecambe

THE Shrimps' Reserves suffered their second defeat of the season when they went down 3-1 to Port Vale today.

Vale’s first chance came in the 4th minute as Rigino Cicilia broke through on the left and his shot was pushed away for a corner but four minutes later Kelly flicked a ball through for Cicilia to run on and beat the ‘keeper in a one on one to put Vale ahead.

It was nearly 2 in the 18th minute as Gezim Shalaj set up Cicilia but his shot was pushed around the post at close range. Kelly soon brought a save from Dan Nizic with a long range shot that was dipping just under the bar and the Cilia saw another effort saved low down.

After the early pressure the Shrimps hit back and equalised after a swift counter attack when Aaron Wildig crossed for Peter Murphy to head past Miguel Santos.

Port Vale went close to taking the lead again just after the half-hour mark when Cicilia hit the post with a header but five minutes later they did add a second when Sam Kelly scored with a neat finish from the edge of the area.

The Valiants added a third shortly after as Quentin Pereira found space to shoot on the edge of the box and he blasted the ball home into the far corner.

That proved to be the last goal of the game in a much tighter second half although Nizic was called upon to make two decent saves.
